About PVC Processing Aid

PVC Processing Aid is an additive used to improve the processing performance of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Its main function is to promote PVC melting, increase melt strength, improve surface quality, and reduce processing defects. Due to poor thermal stability and high melt viscosity, PVC is prone to problems such as melt fracture and surface roughness during processing. The addition of processing aids can significantly optimize its processing performance.

PVC processing aid can promote melting, increase friction between PVC particles, accelerate melting speed, and make plasticization more uniform; Improve melt strength, prevent melt fracture, reduce extrusion swelling, and enhance processing stability; Improve surface smoothness, reduce surface defects such as flow marks and shark skin, and enhance the appearance quality of products; Enhance thermal stability, some processing aids can assist with thermal stabilizers to reduce PVC degradation; Optimize the processing window to maintain good processability of PVC over a wider temperature range.

PVC processing aid is mainly divided into acrylic processing aid and San processing aid. Acrylic processing aid, such as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) based processing aids, have high melt strength, good surface finish, and are suitable for both hard and soft PVC. Mainly used in profiles, pipes, sheets, and transparent products. SAN processing aid, with lower cost but slightly inferior performance to ACR, is mainly suitable for general PVC products such as cables and films.
